What are the lateness and absence procedures?

Students enrolled in the ECO Charter School must attend school regularly in accordance with the laws of the state. The program offered by ECO Charter School is based on the presence of the student and requires continuity of instruction and classroom participation. Students who arrive on time have a better chance to achieve success. When students arrive late, they miss important concepts. Any student absent from school must upon his or her return, must provide the homeroom teacher with a note from the parent/guardian explaining the reason for the absence. Any student absent for 2 or more consecutive days due to illness must, upon returning to school, must provide a signed doctors note.

The following conditions constitute reasonable cause for absence from school; illness (documented), quarantine, accident, required court appearance, religious holiday and/or death in the family. The Head of School reserves the right to verify and investigate the cause of each absence exceeding 2 days as well as the right to investigate repeated unexplained absence.

Chronic absences could result in serious action. Any student accumulating 10 or more unexcused absences over the course of the academic school year will be reported to the proper authorities including the Camden City Truancy Court and the Department of Child Protection and Permanency. In addition, any student absent from school for 10 or more school days is in jeopardy of being retained at the current grade level.
